What is San Mateo National Little League?

Founded in 1968, home of the Dawgs.  The San Mateo National Little League is committed to providing the best baseball experience possible for our:

  • Players by by teaching the fundamentals of baseball, including skills, teamwork and sportsmanship

  • Families, by providing a safe, positive and fun baseball experience

  • Coaches, by supporting their efforts to provide the highest standard of positive coaching appropriate for each age group

  • Community, by being an active part of San Mateo through its outreach to all families, schools and organizations

The SMNLL is about creating winners, not necessarily reflected on the scoreboard, but from the baseball experience that creates a lifetime of memories.


How do I sign up?

What baseball age is my child?

How do tryouts work?

Players in wiffle ball, t-ball and A ball divisions do not need to attend tryouts.

Players that are interested in playing AA, AAA and Majors divisions must attend tryouts in order to be considered for the draft.  Tryouts are held by age group.  Be sure to double check your child’s baseball age as it may be different from their current age.  See FAQ above.


How/When are teams formed/drafted?

Wiffle, T and A ball division teams will be formed by the player agent and division coordinators.  


After tryouts, a draft will be held to form Majors, AAA and AA teams.  Drafts usually occur toward the end January.   


Can my child play on the same team as their friend(s)?

The league attempts to form teams in Wiffle, T and A ball based on neighborhood, school, and buddy requests.  The league will do it’s best to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee it.  


There are no buddy requests for AA, AAA and Majors divisions due to the draft process.


When do practices start?

Practices for AA, AAA and Majors usually start in early February.  Tball and A ball practices usually start in late February.  Wiffle ball games start in March and a short practice usually takes place right before game.  


When do games start?

Majors and AAA games start in late February.  All other divisions start in March on or after Opening Day.  


How long does the season last?

Opening day is in early March and the season goes through the beginning of June.


How often do teams play and practice?

Majors and AAA divisions have two games per week and typically two practices per week.  

AA, A and T-ball divisions play one game per week and typically practice once per week.
